Mark’s life path into the practice of law included working as a roughneck on oil rigs in Alberta, falling trees in B.C., loading logging trucks in B.C., working in a sawmill in the Yukon, selling life insurance, and playing bass guitar touring Germany with a gospel band. His wealth of life experience gives him a solid grounding in life, and what it puts you through. He worked and paid his own way through school. Studying philosophy in University was the counterpoint to the callouses and blisters of the life of a labourer, graduating with a Batchelor of Arts from the University of Alberta in 1980. Law School followed after working in the Federal Penitentiary System for a year as a Living Unit Officer.

Mark was called to the bar in Ontario in 1986 and has been practicing law in Simcoe County since then. After estabilishing a general practice, he limited his practice to family law in the early 1990s. Mark has successfully appeared at the Ontario Court of Appeal several times. He still represents clients in courts in Midland, Barrie, Collingwood, Orillia, Bracebridge, and Newmarket.

Perhaps more interestingly:

Mark has been the Canadian national champion in the sport class in hang gliding four times in the last ten years, and has been on the podium at the nationals another four times in that period. He also enjoys the sports of freediving, windsurfing, and scuba diving. Over the years he has jumped out of a perfectly serviceable airplane 27 times, and very briefly raced his BMW motorcyle “back in the day”. Mark continues to fly and freedive, not having enough time to do the other things any more.
